Essential OS X Software
This is a list of software I install on all my Macs.
Perian and Flip4Mac (Free)
These two Quicktime plugins are essential if you want to watch Windows Media files or any of the other formats that quicktime doesn't natively support. Both are free and both work well. There's no excuse for not installing them.
Adium (Free)
Adium is a multiprotocol IM client that supports all the major networks. While it doesn't support audio and video chat, it excels at presenting a nice, clean interface for normal IM sessions with plenty of features for managing multitudes of contacts.
Linkinus (€19.99)
Linkinus is a newer IRC client on OS X, and while it uses more RAM than most, the clean and simple interface really brings IRC to a more human friendly format. Unlike other "pretty" clients, this one also has plenty of advanced features.
NetNewsWire (Free)
NetNewsWire is a free RSS reader that syncs across computers using the Google Reader service. I personally live the interface on it.
Butler (Free)
Butler is hard to describe... it does a lot of things, mostly in the background. It's most prominent feature is that of an advanced launcher, but you can also define global shortcuts for just about everything.
Transmit ($29.95)
Transmit is the best FTP client for OS X. Period.
Coda ($99)
Coda is a web development app that has plenty of features.
1Password ($39.95)
GraphicConverter ($34.95)
